What does it mean to be "Born Again"? Growing up in a good "Christian" family, I had heard about Jesus, God, angels, heaven and other religious things all my life. The phrase "being born again", however was not one I was familiar with. It is also important to point out that even though I was close to religious practices , I never had a real experience with God.
At age 25, I went through a nasty divorce. My life fell apart. Every thing that I considered stable was turned up side down. My friends and family could only comfort me to a point. They could not take away the emptiness I felt inside. I know now that the emptiness was always there. I went several months searching for relief. My younger brother began talking to me about God. At first I did not want to listen, but I was desparate. One late September evening, I began crying out to God for help . Alone on my living room floor, I was asking God to help me and to forgive me for wasting my life. All of a sudden, I felt this wonderful peace come over me. Something, or somebody was in the room with me! I felt a calm, but powerful sensation oozing through my body. A deep sense of love permeated my whole being. I began to weep like I had never wept before. I know now that it was the Spirit of God cleasing me and giving me a new life.
As one can imagine, I was not the the same person when I got up from the floor. This experience caused me to want more of God. Later, I began speaking in an unknown language as Jesus proclaimed, "Out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water."
This was my "new birth" experience. It has been more than 20 years since that wonderful night. The Holy Ghost continues to guide and fill my life.
